Adejoke Ayoola, PhD, RN
Adejoke Ayoola, PhD, RN, is a second-year RWJF Nurse Faculty Scholar at the Calvin College Department of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She earned her BSN and MSN at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. She received her PhD from Michigan State University. Her work with the ethnically diverse, low-income women in Grand Rapids revealed that women are interested in learning more about the changes occurring in their body, and this motivated her in applying for the Nurse Faculty Scholars program. Her research interests include promoting women and adolescent reproductive health with the ultimate goal of reducing poor maternal and child health outcomes. She was the lead author in a study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology in August 2009 examining the relationship between the time of recognition of pregnancy and birth outcomes, such as premature births, low birth weight, admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, and infant mortality. Part of her work among low-income women was published in the Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health in July 2013.
